SAME PHOTOGRAPHER. LOUDER. WEIRDER. MORE HERSELF THAN EVER

This year Koontz Photography celebrated its 20th year in business, and it felt like exactly the right moment to make a change that has been a long time coming.

If you have a contract or gift certificate under the Koontz Photography name, it is absolutely still valid and honored in full because at the end of the day it has always just been me.

Life changes are taking me away from my former married name, and it felt like the right time to let the business follow. The business I built deserves a name that reflects who I actually am, and DellaMorte Photography is that name.

WHERE DOES THE NAME DELLAMORTE COME FROM?

When I was 15, a friend shortened my name, Daniella, and started calling me Della. It stuck. For almost two decades I have been using the stage name DellaMorte for everything related to my artwork, my body painting, and anything dark and creative that I felt I had to keep separate from the professional, polished world of wedding and family photography.

The name DellaMorte comes from the 1994 Italian horror film Cemetery Man, or DellaMorte Dellamore which translates loosely to, "of death, of love." The duality has always felt more like me than anything else.

For years I kept those two versions of myself in different rooms, concerned that one would scare off the other. I spent a long time trying to be palatable to everyone, hiding my interests, and presenting a version of myself that felt safe enough for any client to book. At some point I had to accept that the people who are meant to find me will love every side of me, and the ones who don't were never really my people to begin with.

The name and website have changed, but I'm still the same photographer showing up with the same values and the same obsession with finding the real moment.
